Knee pain can limit walking, stairs, squatting, running, and daily movement. It may begin suddenly after an injury or develop gradually due to overuse, workload changes, or degenerative changes.

At Valley Physical Medicine, we take a conservative, function-focused approach to knee pain. Treatment recommendations are individualized and may include chiropractic care, supportive therapies, rehabilitative exercise, and adjunctive options when clinically appropriate.

Common Causes of Knee Pain
Knee pain may be associated with conditions such as:

  • Patellar tendon irritation (jumper’s knee)
  • Quad tendon irritation
  • Meniscal-type pain patterns (select cases)
  • Ligament strain or instability patterns
  • Arthritis-related knee pain
  • IT band irritation / lateral knee pain
  • Overuse injuries and training-related pain

When to Get Evaluated
You should consider an evaluation if you have:

  • Pain lasting more than 1–2 weeks
  • Swelling, catching, or instability
  • Pain that limits stairs, walking, or exercise
  • Difficulty squatting or kneeling
  • Pain after a fall, twist, or sudden injury
  • Ongoing stiffness or loss of function

What to Expect at Your Visit
Your visit includes a focused history and physical evaluation to assess movement limitations, strength deficits, and the tissues that may be contributing to symptoms. When clinically indicated, in-office digital X-rays may be utilized to support evaluation. Advanced diagnostic imaging such as MRI or CT may be ordered when appropriate to clarify findings and guide care planning.

Conservative Treatment Options
Care plans are individualized and may include:

  • Chiropractic care focused on joint mechanics of the knee, hip, and spine as appropriate
  • Soft tissue techniques and mobility-focused care
  • Rehabilitation and exercise programming to improve strength and stability
  • Supportive in-office therapies when appropriate
  • Activity modification and home strategies to support recovery

StemWave for Knee Pain (Cash-Based)
For select cases of knee pain, StemWave therapy may be considered as a cash-based adjunctive option. StemWave is a non-invasive acoustic wave technology used to support healing and pain reduction for select musculoskeletal conditions. Individual outcomes vary and recommendations are based on clinical presentation and response.
