Low back pain is one of the most common reasons people miss work, reduce activity, and seek conservative care. It can begin suddenly after lifting or bending, or develop gradually due to repetitive strain, prolonged sitting, or changes in activity level.

At Valley Physical Medicine, we take a conservative, function-focused approach to low back pain. Treatment recommendations are individualized and may include chiropractic care, supportive therapies, rehabilitation strategies, and adjunctive options when clinically appropriate.

Common Causes of Low Back Pain
Low back pain may be associated with:

  • Mechanical low back pain and movement restriction
  • Muscle strain or overuse injury
  • Disc-related pain patterns (select cases)
  • Sciatica or radiating symptoms
  • Joint irritation involving the spine or pelvis
  • Postural and workload-related stress
  • Stiffness, reduced mobility, or loss of function

When to Get Evaluated
You should consider an evaluation if you have:

  • Pain lasting more than 1–2 weeks
  • Pain that worsens with bending, lifting, or prolonged sitting
  • Radiating pain into the buttock or leg
  • Recurrent flare-ups affecting work or activity
  • Stiffness or reduced mobility limiting daily function

What to Expect at Your Visit
Your visit includes a focused history and physical evaluation to assess mobility restrictions, strength deficits, and the mechanical factors contributing to symptoms. When clinically indicated, in-office digital X-rays may be utilized to support evaluation. Advanced diagnostic imaging such as MRI or CT may be ordered when appropriate to clarify findings and guide care planning.

Conservative Treatment Options
Care plans are individualized and may include:

  • Chiropractic care focused on spinal and pelvic mechanics as appropriate
  • Soft tissue techniques and mobility-focused care
  • Spinal decompression when clinically appropriate
  • Rehabilitation and exercise programming to improve stability and function
  • Supportive in-office therapies when appropriate
  • Home recommendations to support recovery and reduce recurrence
